Stainless steel is the second-most-produced metal in the world and is used for a wide range of applications. This is largely because it has excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion, is abrasion resistant, and is simple to clean. These characteristics have made it quite widespread in a variety of industries. When it comes to finding a durable material for household items, there are many options available.
Stainless Steel Plates Grades Used For
Here are some of the more regularly manufactured stainless steel plate grades and where they are used to help you understand the usage of these distinct stainless steel grades:
Grade 410S Plate
Stainless Steel 410S Plates is a versatile, low carbon content alloy that provides high-temperature strength with limited brittleness. It is an excellent choice for applications where high-temperature strength is desired but ductility and toughness are also valued. 410S has a trace of Titanium and/or Niobium to prevent the production of austenite even in the presence of Carbon at high temperatures. This keeps the metal soft and tough at all temperatures but still limits its capacity to harden at high temperatures.
Grade 304 Plate
The plating grade of this steel is 304, 304H, and 304L. This is well suited for food and beverage applications, due to the fact that it has the capability to minimize contamination possibilities. It contains approximately 8% nickel and 18% chromium.
Grade 316 Plate
Due to its corrosion resistance caused by saline water, this grade, which is also in the 300 series, is often used in the marine, environmental, and petrochemical fields.
Grade 410 Plate
Surgical tools and strainers for the food industry may be made using this heat treatable steel.
Uses of Stainless Steel 410S Plates
410S plates are used in applications where high temperatures are involved and the metal should retain its ductile nature. This can be seen in parts of jet engine turbine blades where ductile material is needed to handle repeated thermal cycling as well as jet engine compressor disks where the material must be able to withstand high temperatures without becoming brittle.
It is not typically used for structural purposes since it has a low yield strength and poor corrosion resistance, but it performs well in chemical applications where some corrosion is acceptable.
Type 410S Plates Have the Following Uses
- It can be used in the refining of petroleum.
- It can be used in the manufacturing of petrochemical equipment.
- It can be used in thermal treatment processes such as coke ovens or cement kilns.
- It can be used in valves for industrial applications with medium pressure and high temperatures when some corrosion is acceptable.
- It can be used as plates for presses to apply pressure to metal products such as wire or bars
- It can be used to make exchanges of heat from one medium to another.
- It can be used in mining and mineral processing equipment.
